The research will be performed on two building types: residential buildings (detached houses and multi-family apartments) and office buildings (large scale high rise offices, and small scale offices).
5.1 Subtask A: Definition and reporting
Work item A1: State-of-the-art review
State-of-the-art review should be made on building energy use terms, energy boundaries, conversion factors, buildings energy performance, influence factors, so that the uniform definitions can be made in the following work.
Work item 2: Definition of energy boundaries, building energy use terms (energy consumption for different end users, et. al), and conversion factors
Existing literatures including International and National Standards are available.
Work item 3: Definition of influence factors and energy performance indicators, and making report format
1) Influencing factors
Clear definitions should be also made on the above fix aspects of factors.
Besides that, economical effect on building energy use should also be considered in this part.
2) Energy performance indicators
The following guides should be applied in the definition of energy performance indicators:
3) Reporting formats
A reporting format should be developed for the scientific expression of the above items with uniform definitions and correct application in other subtasks.
Current progress in ST_A:
As for the item definitions in ST_A, a list of all the items needing definitions are developed, and detailed discussion about how to develop the item definitions are conducted. It is expected that three sets of item definitions should be worked out, namely one simple set, one medium set and one complicate set for different use purposes, and these three sets should be compatible. All the item definition work is divided into several parts and assigned to different participant countries.
5.2 Subtask B: Case Studies and Data Collection
Work Item B1: Collection, review and selection of case studies for analysis
The key point in this work item is to define the cases below to be studied with different occupants’ behaviors (OB).
Work Item B2: Documentation and analysis of case studies and of collected data
There are several steps to do in order to realize this work item:
Work Item B3: Review and development of measurement techniques.
Some state of art investigations will be conducted, and related report will be produced
Work Item B4: Development of a central data base, which includes information model (database)
- Indicators (ó Subtasks A)
- Evaluation and Analyses (ó Subtask D)
Current progress in ST_B:
What kinds of buildings fit our research requirement of case studies is figured out, and different participant countries will provide their own case studies available for the analyses in the next step.
5.3 Subtask C: Statistical Analysis
Work Item C1: Review of statistical studies and analyses
Work Item C2: Development of statistical analyses for global, national, regional total energy use in buildings
Work Item C3: Development of statistical analysis for total energy use in individual buildings
Work Item C4: Development of prediction methods and identification of relevant factors of total energy use in buildings
- Building sample database (see also WI C1 and C2);
- Adopted prediction methods;
- Results.
- Building sample database (see also WI C1 and C3);
- Adopted prediction methods;
- Results.
5.4 Subtask D: Energy Performance Evaluation
Work Item D1: Analysis of the effects of building and occupant related factors on building total energy use
Work item D2: Evaluation of existing and new performance indicators on the total energy use considering the influencing factors
Work item D3: Demonstration of knowledge and methods developed in this ANNEX to predict the effect of energy saving technologies and occupant’s behavior & lifestyle on building energy use
